6 Ways To Stay Motivated & Support Women

December 7, 2015

Last week, I posted about Shine Theory and how we can use it eliminate girl on girl hate. I was met with an overwhelmingly positive response and have been talking to women about it ever since. A lot of people stated how hard it can be to stay positive, especially when there is so much hate for women in the world. One woman even told me that she wasted years not getting to know somebody because she was so intimidated by her confidence.

With this in mind, I make it my mission to inject positivity into my life any way possible. Good vibes keep me motivated and help keep the sisterhood strong. Despite the clear benefits of a positive mental attitude, I find it incredibly difficult to maintain one. Luckily there are a number of things I make a point of doing, or consuming, in order to stay upbeat, motivated and supportive.

#girlboss radio

If you’re partial to a podcast, I highly recommend Sophia Amoruso’s #girlboss radio. If you’ve read the book, you may be wondering why on earth I’m recommending this podcast. But hear me out, the podcast is a dramatic improvement. Whilst the book was pretentious and boring, the podcast is anything but. Each week, Amoruso speaks to a different Girl Boss about a range of topics and it’s always an inspiring listen. Guests include: Charlize Theron, Grace Helbig, Madeline Poole and more. I’m always left with this overwhelming admiration for women that makes me want to go out and do something.

Emma Gannon’s newsletter

Emma Gannon, of Girl Lost in the City, is a writer with a newsletter that leaves me feeling motivated every week. Every Sunday, I look forward to checking my inbox and feeling inspired. The newsletter includes a weekly roundup of everything Emma has been writing, reading, listening to and watching – there’s always something to get stuck in to!

A good book

There’s nothing better than a good book, is there? I’m never been a huge reader but when I do read, I always find myself thinking I should read more. This is one of reasons I started my Feminist Book Club. As I grow older, I’m making a point of reading more. I’m not big on fiction but I love reading books that I can learn from, especially if they’ve been written by women. Here’s a book that I keep on my nightstand that really inspires me.

Your favourite blogs

Nothing inspires me more than reading some of my favourite blogs. You may be thinking, “but Tara, doesn’t reading bigger blogs bum you out?“. My friend, you’re thinking about it all wrong – we’re all successful. You can find some of my favourite blogs over in my sidebar.

Supporting your friends

You know what really inspires me? Seeing my friends do well. Nothing motivates me more than being surrounded by badass boss ladies – keep shining dolls!

Zusterschap’s newsletter

With all this mind, Katherine and myself decided to create a monthly newsletter. If you don’t know what Zusterschap is, it’s a feminist lifestyle blog I started with my friend. We’re driven by women’s personal stories and aim to highlight the power of women coming together. And that’s exactly what we’re doing. Each month, we’re focusing on you guys. Every newsletter features a round-up of our best content, your #BossChickMoments and questions you have. December’s newsletter comes with a Christmas gift so don’t forget to sign up!

We 100% need more ladies supporting each other! Life is too short for us to bring each other down and I absolutely love this post as a bit of a mini bible and how to guide on how to do it. Love this post, beautiful!

I love everything about this post! Women should definitely come together instead of trying to do everything on our own. Sisterhood is such a powerful thing and I am in awe of what a great community you are putting together.
