It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a grinch. Christmas has always indicated a stressful time of year for me and who likes stress? Although Christmas-related stress has eased up over the years, there are certain traditions that make still make it hard for me to enjoy the holiday.
Like Christmas songs for example, I can’t stand how overplayed they all are and it makes shopping more unbearable than it actually is. As much as I’d like to sit here and complain about the commodity of Christmas and trash mainstream songs, I’m not going to. Instead, I’m going to showcase some of my favourite alternatives.
A Christmas Song – Matt Berry and Everyone
Multi-talented Matt Berry can do no wrong in my eyes. Most people know Berry as a kooky voiceover artist or the ridiculous Douglas Reynholm, but he’s also a fantastic musician.
Merry Christmas Baby (Please Don’t Die) – Dum Dum Girls and Crocodiles
Aw, ain’t that cute. Check out On Christmas too, total 80’s vibes.
Summer Camp – Christmas Wrapping
This song has been covered a number of times, but this is definitely my favourite version.
Something For You – Best Coast and Wavves
Big fan of musicians who date collaborating. This cute number was a jingle for Target I believe.
It’s Xmas & I’ve Got Everything I Want – Spectrals
Not one for everyone, but I’m throwing it in there anyway.
Anything by RuPaul
Literally anything. Mamma Ru just released a brand new Christmas album as well!
Christmas With Weezer
In case you’re still craving some classics! Check out She & Him’s Christmas album too.
What will you be listening to this Christmas?
