Valentine’s Day can signify a lot things to different people. For me? It’s all about food. There’s always an ongoing debate this time of year about how phoney the holiday is. Whilst I don’t disagree, I’m also never going to say no to chocolate. So the stance I take on Valentine’s Day is ‘each to their own’.
I’m in a relationship where our anniversary falls on the 15th February so Valentine’s Day rolls into a whole food-filled weekend. Perfect, right? So, when Baker Days* tweeted me about reviewing a cake, I just couldn’t say no. I was even more intrigued when they were offering to send me a letterbox sized cake.
The day after, I went to dinner with some friends and told them about this opportunity. “A cake through your letterbox, isn’t that a little messy?” “That cake is going to be horrible.” “Won’t it be really, *really* small?” Just as I was starting to regret taking Baker Days up on their offer, they completely surprised me with this unique product right to my door.
The truth is this letterbox size cake is such a great idea. It’s hard to imagine how this would work but the cake comes in a beautiful tin inside a box. The cake also comes with a blank card and some lovehearts for the lucky recipient.
This year I’ll be celebrating three years with Iain (my longest relationship yet!), so I decided to make that the focus. Since Valentine’s Day and our Anniversary is all rolled into one, I went for a simple design with minimal text. However, Baker Days have a huge selection of choice when it comes to decorating, especially with their Valentine’s Day range.
I went for chocolate sponge and it was glorious. I don’t know why I had such low expectations for this letterbox size cake. The cake itself stays fresh for 14 days, but it was definitely gone in a week!
This is a great idea because you can’t always see your loved ones on Valentine’s Day. The letterbox size cake is a fabulous way to show somebody you’re still thinking of them anyway. I mean, who doesn’t want cake sent straight to their door?
