Last week, I had the pleasure of attending B. Makeup‘s relaunch party. I’m still in complete shock that I was invited to be honest! Aside from client events (more on this soon!), I don’t really go to blogger events. It was a really fun night, here’s what went down.
Held at a room at The Hoxton in Holborn, ‘The Apartment’ transformed into a buzzing vegan haven for the night
There’s two Hoxton hotels in London, guess who went to the wrong one first? Luckily, I arranged to meet with people beforehand so I still managed to be on time. When I did get there, I was greeted by people from the brand ready to answer any questions as well a gorgeous summery cocktail. I haven’t been to many beauty-related events, but this was one was a lot of fun. The music was great (apart from Blurred Lines) and all of the food was vegan, which I was really impressed by! One of the highlights was most definitely the vegan donuts.
The highlight of the night was definitely hanging with cruelty-free friends, old and new! There I met the lovely Shenan, Hayley, Nadia, Steph and Sarah. In the past, I haven’t had the greatest experiences with bloggers at events and I guess that’s why I don’t go to them much. But these lot were lovely and made the night even more fun. I don’t know many vegans in real life and it was so fun to finally hang with some.
I probably wouldn’t have gone if they hadn’t, so thank you girls!
So if you’re wondering how B. have relaunched, here’s how
So B. are Superdrug’s own brand; they’re cruelty-free and completely affordable. (Note: Superdrug are owned by a brand that test on animals, so it depends how you feel about parent companies.) They’ve been available for a while now, and like I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve never really looked into them until earlier this year. I didn’t know this but apparently they were discontinued last year, so they could improve their range.
After attending this event and trying some products myself, I think it’s fair to say B. Makeup are back and better than ever. The all new and improved line is really varied and definitely stands out. It also features some multi-purpose and innovative products, which I think can be hard to find at an affordable price. Best of all, each product is 100% vegan! What caught our eye was the priming souffle, it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before.
Here’s some of the makeup I tried
After a night of eating vegan treats, we also went home with some more vegan goodies. B. Makeup were kind enough to send us home with some products from the new and improved line. We sat in the hotel lobby for one more drink and compared all our stuff. I like that every goody bag was different, some of us had completely products from one another or different shades.
The products I was immediately drawn to were obviously the lip products. As somebody who has recently dyed their hair, I’m definitely on the look out for new shades. In my goody bag, there was a glossy lipstick and a matte too. The lipstick is really nice, it applies beautifully and is pretty vibrant. Unfortunately, I hated the matte shade on me! It didn’t look good at all. However, I was impressed by how bright it was and the formula. I’ll definitely be trying some more suitable shades.
Funny story actually…
On the day of the event, I actually ran out of wipes. As I was putting makeup on, I was thinking of ways I could take it off later. Talk about luck! The wipes are really good. I refuse to buy micellar water, so I’m glad I got to try these and I’ll definitely be re-buying. Some wipes are really quite rough on your skin, these almost moisturise yours.
I was also very pleased the goody bag included a makeup brush by B. I wear eyeshadow a lot and I like creating different looks. As a result, I use a lot of brushes and you can never have too many eye ones in my opinion. I actually purchased one of B.’s sets recently and was really impressed. Their new brushes are even fluffier and come complete with a luxury re-design. Black and matte, sign me up.
Now on to the products I was most excited to use
Their kohl eyeliner is a lot darker than you think. I initially tried it on my eyebrows and it did not look good at all. After I tried it on my eyes and it looked really nice. I normally use white for my waterline, so it will be cool to switch it up now and then.
The one product I was hands-down most excited for was the contour pen and let me tell you it did not disappoint. I’ve been using some contouring creme crayon things and sometimes it feels like a lot of effort. For example, I have to use a narrow brush for the bronzer if I want to contour my nose. It’s not ideal. With this product, I can do it all at ease and they blend so well. I was left with a really subtle contour and I’m always worried it looks too harsh.
I was most impressed and excited by their multi-purpose products
After reading Nadia’s post on how to have a less wasteful makeup routine, I’ve been keeping an eye out for these kind of products. This lip/cheek tint looks really dark, but it actually turned out quite nice! I was a little concerned it would be wasted on me, but it does kind of work as a blush. I think with orange/pink being the main focus on my eyes, it might be a nice contrast. Again, I’d also like to try some different shades.
So what else is there?
There is so much coming with this range and after sampling a few, I’m really excited to try some more! I’m particularly looking forward to trying their duo eyeliner, which is double ended and offers two different girths. Their lip scrub comes in the form of a lipstick, so I’m keen to see if it works. I’m also interested to see what their foundations and blushers are like. Lastly, I want to try some high street setting tools. I can’t bring myself to buy high end setting spray!
