If you watch my YouTube videos, you might have seen me mention I’ve been dying to try some Elf products. In my ‘week of the life‘ video, I spoke about how my local Superdrug didn’t know when they were getting them. With Summer kinda here to stay (British Summer, at least), I decided to do a little online shop and pick up some new bits.
Here’s another mini haul for you…
B. Confident Hyaluronic Acid Spritz
If I buy new products I tend to focus on skincare these days. Since going vegan, I’m trying to donate or use up products I don’t wish to re-buy first. Skincare though? I can’t get enough of it. I’m a big fan having routines and changing them up every so often. Since the weather has changed, I’ve been looking for some new products to add to my rotation.
Since it’s turned hotter, I’ve started wearing less makeup. It’s no fun sweating your eyebrows off and it’s also a nice opportunity to let your skin breathe. My freckles have started reappearing too! However, this doesn’t mean I don’t use any products at all. With combination skin that is more on the oily side, I find myself having to tone quite a lot. I was looking for something a bit more portable and I came across this spray from Superdrug’s own brand B.
It does a pretty good job of replenishing your skin in the heat. It ‘locks in moisture’ and essentially hydrates your skin. Using toner outside of a routine isn’t sustainable really and this spray has worked beautifully. Not only is it kinder to my skin, once a day is enough. I feel cleaner, cooler and my skin looks better as well. Because it’s so light, you don’t have to worry about it clogging your pores either. The brand recommend using it to refresh makeup as well, it will be interesting to see if it works there too. A new travel essential I think!
Makeup essentials from Elf
I love talking about makeup because it differs for everyone. Makeup is subjective and self expression is cool. Another thing I like hearing about is other people’s essentials. It doesn’t matter what kind of look I’m doing there will be a few products I will always use. As a result, they’re products I need to re-buy more often than I would normally.
After recently discovering that Collection are in fact not cruelty-free, I’ve been on the look out for a new concealer. Since concealer is predominately what I’m wearing at the moment, I thought it would be beneficial to pick up something that does more than your average concealer. I’ve been wanting to try Elf for a while now too, so perfect timing! All of their makeup is vegan and cruelty-free. Not all their brushes are vegan-friendly though, so watch out there.
This concealer is hands down the best I’ve ever tried. I normally use concealer to cover up spots and blemishes when doing a full face of makeup after foundation and before powder. In the Summer I’ll use it under my eyes, around my nose and again to cover up any spots. I think with products like this it can take some time to find your holy grail. In my experience, a lot of concealers can be quite thick and stand out in the wrong ways.
This is a much superior item to Collection’s for more reason that one! The first being it’s both cruelty-free and vegan (Collection’s is vegan but not cruelty-free, they sell in China). Secondly, I believe it’s better value for money. There’s not much price difference (31p!) but you’re definitely getting more product with Elf. Lastly, the product itself is better.
I was apprehensive about finding a good replacement but Elf’s blows it out of the water for me. The application is pretty much seamless; it’s very light and provides a smooth finish. I’m also really impressed with the highlighting element this product has to offer too. Again, it works well whatever the look. If I’m wearing less makeup it makes my face look brighter, if I’m wearing eyeshadow it makes my eyes pop. I also like to use it before applying powder highlighter too!
In addition to that, I also picked up a setting powder. Again, this is a product I’ll always use. I’ve been wanting to replace mine for ages because the one I’ve been using from Makeup Revolution doesn’t really work with my skin. I’m also unsure if it’s vegan-friendly as well. Like the concealer, this powder is really light and applies beautifully. This is also the first time I’ve used translucent powder and I’ve definitely converted! Both of these products are great and will last a long time I reckon.
