Hippeas Are Basically Vegan Wotsits & They’re Great

If vegetable crisps aren’t your style, why not try Hippeas instead? That’s right, I’m back again with more vegan crisp recommendations.

What are Hippeas?

As the title tells you, I think Hippeas are essentially vegan wotsits. Pretty cool, right? Made from chickpeas and other ingredients, Hippeas are organic, high in fibre, gluten-free and vegan. In addition to that, they’re a good source of protein, free of additives or preservatives, and packed with good vibes!

Their mission is all about ‘peas, love & giving back’

They support Farm Africa, a charity that helps farmers become more climate-smart and productive. The thought behind this is that they can enable them to ‘grow their own way out of poverty’. Hippeas’ website also states that chickpeas are good for the planet too. Chickpea plants naturally release nitrogen back into the Earth as they grow!

What flavours do they do?

Out of five different flavours, they were kind enough to let me try four: cheese & love, in herbs we trust, far out fajita as well as sweet & smokin’. Each packet is unique in their own way and I’m not sure I could pick a favourite!

Cheese & love

Considering Hippeas are vegan, I was pleased to see how cheesy this flavour was. I’m still discovering different cheese alternatives all the time and always surprised!

In Herbs We Trust

Out of the four, I would say these tasted the strongest. Containing rosemary, oregano and thyme, you’ve definitely got to be in the mood for them.

Far Out Fajita

These are described as a ‘fiery stash of chilli, paprika and cumin puff’. They’re not as spicy as I anticipated!

Sweet & Smokin’

I think if I had to pick a favourite it would be between these and the herb ones. With paprika spice and smoked sea salt, these are definitely the ones I’d go for again.

Much like other vegan food products I’ve reviewed, Hippeas seem like a great company. Their product is good, their packaging is neat and they’re doing things behind the scenes as well. The only negative thing I have to say is I wish there were more in the packets! For £2.29 I expect more. Other than that, I can’t fault them. We were sent a big box and I know they’re going to go down well at our all vegan BBQ we’re hosting this weekend!

Hippeas can be found at Waitrose, Boots, Wholefoods, WHSmiths, Superdrug and more.

This post contains PR samples, but all opinions are my own.

I bloody love these! I buy the fajita flavour ones from Boots all the time!

Pretty sure I prefer ~crisp alternatives~ to real crisps tbh. A pal of mine at work always has these pea snap crisp things and they’re divine!

Great review Tara – I was instantly drawn to a vegan substitute for Wotsits. These sound like a better alternative. I’ll have to look out for them in the shops, thanks for sharing! 🙂 xx

Vegan wotsits? Say no more! Will definitely have to pick some of these up when I next spot them as I love anything savoury and I love chickpeas in general too so this sounds like a win-win, especially hearing they’re gluten-free too. I love cheese but I’m trying to slowly wean myself off of it to move into a vegan/veggie diet and also because I have trouble eating a lot of dairy and wheat based foods too, so it seems like the right time to try out something different and see if it has an effect on anything so these sound great. I anticipate I’ll like the fajita ones the most! – Tasha
