Program Your Pleasure With MysteryVibe

Program Your Pleasure With MysteryVibe

If there’s one thing I love more than embracing my sexuality, it’s innovative sex products. We live in a society that wants us to hate ourselves so much and it can be very hard to find a sex positive brand that goes against that. Even some of the biggest sex brands out there, who appear to be for women too, will have a strong focus on male pleasure in their advertising campaigns. Adverts that scream “buy this sex toy and drive your man wild!” are really just screaming women’s only role in the bedroom is to please a man. It’s boring, sexist, heteronormative and not sex positive; I’m not here for it.

One of my favourite discoveries of last year was Lovability Inc; a startup condom company from NYC that runs on girl power and sex positivity. I interviewed the wonderful Claire, CMO of Lovability, for Zusterschap which you can find here. I also reviewed their condoms too. Spoiler alert: they’re awesome. I felt somewhat spoiled by Lovability and found I expected a lot more from similar brands. Shopping around for my next toy I was feeling a little disillusioned by it all, until MysteryVibe entered my Twitter feed.

MysteryVibe are a London based health & lifestyle brand that focus on pleasure and they have a vision I can get behind. They’re all about creating personalised and immersive experiences in the bedroom, especially for couples who want to switch off from the outside world and tune in to each other instead.

They want to make pleasure mainstream. There’s still a huge taboo surrounding female pleasure, so they’ve built the company in a very mainstream way. By forming partnerships with big name brands like Google, MysteryVibe hope to join the sex positive revolution and normalise some of the conversations around sex.

They’re currently in the process of launching their first product, which essentially is the most personalisable vibrator on the market. If that already wasn’t exciting enough, I spoke to Stephanie Alys; co-founder and Chief Pleasure Officer at MysteryVibe.

Mystery Vibe

Please introduce yourself to my awesome readers

Hi! I’m Stephanie, co-founder and Chief Pleasure Officer at MysteryVibe.  It’s an incredibly varied and rewarding role – no two days are ever the same!

My overall focus is to develop a more open and positive dialogue surrounding sexual pleasure for a happier + healthier lifestyle for everyone. At the moment, we’re focusing on launching our first product, Crescendo, which means I work on anything from research, partnerships to marketing.

My favourite thing is to do is talk to someone new about MysteryVibe, it definitely sparks some interesting conversations!

How did MysteryVibe start?

Our story dates back to 2008 when we came across the Nokia Morph concept video. A tablet, phone and watch all in one; it could bend and take various shapes.

We were inspired by this truly breathtaking work of innovation and art, and set out to create something extraordinary in sexual pleasure. We wanted to revolutionise how we think about feel about sex, by creating something so intimately personal which has definitely been overlooked in the industry.

We started to do this by creating a pleasure toy that can adapt to the user’s body and desires. Since, we have been working closely with researchers, industrial designers, software gurus and sensory design experts to create Crescendo.

What made you want to develop a personalisable vibrator?

Our biggest motivator was wanting to solve the daily struggle some face to switch off. A lot of us go to bed carrying work-related stress or things on our mind, which makes it harder to enjoy time with our partners or ourselves. It affects our sex lives more than we think and becomes prominent as we get older. It can also affect our relationships and general outlook on life.

Everything about pleasure is intimate and personal; we know that everyone is different and unique, and this is something that should be celebrated! We are all turned on by different things, different visuals, sounds, and vibrations. By creating a truly personalisable pleasure product, we are one step closer towards a truly immersive experience. One that is seamless, where everything is designed to adapt to our desires. We want to help people switch off from their reoccurring thoughts that distract them in bed, get aroused again, and ultimately enjoy themselves.

How does Crescendo adapt to the user’s body and desires?

We originally designed Crescendo to delight on its own. But then made the MysteryVibe App to give everyone an even more personalised experience. With a beautiful and intuitive design, you can download exciting new Vibes from the App and sync them wirelessly with Crescendo.
With limitless possibilities of Vibe patterns, Crescendo is completely personal to you. We are currently working on some really magical new features, so stay tuned!

Do you think the attitude towards female sexuality is changing at all?

I definitely think taboos around sexuality and pleasure are still the norm for all genders and sexual orientations; most societies are afraid to talk about pleasure and sexuality in an open way. However, attitudes are changing. For example Beyoncé promoted Fifty Shades and lots of celebrity speakers doing sex-positive TED talks. The dialogue around sex is evolving and that’s really exciting for us. I would be so proud if I can help in any small way to nudge that dialogue in the right direction.

What are your brand’s core values?

We have three core values that we apply to everything we do. We believe pleasure is a natural and essential part of life that should be celebrated. We think people should be empowered to own their pleasure and feel completely comfortable doing so. And finally, we want to bring inspiring technology in an intelligent way to make pleasure better without disrupting the moment.

What do you want to achieve with MysteryVibe?

We want to build a deep understanding of pleasure and arousal. As a result, we can then support the medical and research communities with our findings and data to help them make progress around various sexual health issues.
Through all of our work, we hope to make a real contribution towards making our society more enlightened and liberal one. So people can ultimately be happier and safer.
What makes the Crescendo so appealing to me is how it can bend! Penis dildos genuinely terrify me and I don’t think I’m alone here. They’re so large and overwhelming, and completely alienate people of other sexual orientations. Everything about MysteryVibe screams revolutionary and I don’t know about you, but I’m incredibly excited! I’ll be reviewing the vibrator and app at a later date, so don’t forget to check back for a follow-up.

I am excited for the launch of Crescendo and happy that there is a company that seeks to fulfil women’s pleasures rather than stereotype women into the passive vessel for patriarchal gratification and it is as you say an example of hetero-normative discourse. I love how open they are about female pleasure and I feel we should be open about talking about sex. It is one of the greatest pleasures a man and woman could have.

I think another thing I Love about it is its not your typical penis shape, I hate that most are made like that, like all women are generally thinking about a man and his penis when it comes to there own pleasure. Its just another thing that adds to the personalisation of this sex toy.

  13. February 18, 2016 / 8:03 pm

I love this. Female sexuality should be celebrated more and I used to have loads of conversations with my uni sisters about vibrators etc. There shouldn’t be any shame attached to it really! Love the fact that this one is bendy – it isn’t heteronormative ya know?

  14. February 18, 2016 / 8:59 pm

This is a really interesting post, I do think sex toys are becoming a lot more acknowledged and accept in society these days and it’s great to see women embracing their sexuality.

I’d love to have something that is personalised and that I can control remotely to suit what I’m looking for at that particular time.
