It’s time for another vegan monthly update! I try to do these somewhere in the middle of the month, but I’m late again this time. Do you know why? Because there’s more and more new, cool vegan things to do! I can’t believe it’s been (just over) three months since we went vegan, I absolutely love it. Here’s what I’ve been up to since my last update.

We had a vegan picnic and a failed vegan bbq
Earlier this month, we experienced a sudden heatwave, so we cycled a town over and had our first vegan picnic! I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again, one of my favourite things to do is try make things we love vegan-friendly. This was such a success, we also decided to throw a vegan BBQ too. We’ve had gorgeous weather throughout July so obviously the one weekend we decide to throw our BBQ it absolutely pisses down! (The weather has sucked since too.) So, our BBQ ended up being inside but everyone loved the food. Asda’s popcorn chicken has changed my life.
I tried some more vegan-friendly snacks and alternatives
In addition to this, I’ve also been trying a few new snacks! I’ve been enjoying Hippeas, Emily’s Crisps, Vego bars and more. We’ve also been enjoying Oatly’s original milk, some rice milk from Rice Dream and Sheese’s cream cheese.
I started emailing brands I wasn’t sure about
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m still making my way through old products and trying to avoid buying from companies that test/are owned by companies that test (with a few exceptions). I’m thrilled that I can shop at The Body Shop again, but there’s been a few companies I’m not sure about. Thanks to Lizz over at Ethical Evolution, I’ve started to email brands I’m unsure about and ask them myself.
I tried Elf Cosmetics
Elf has been available at Superdrug for a while now, but I still can’t see it in store! There’s loads of products I want to try, but I’d like to see them in person first. However, I’ve been meaning to replace my Collection concealer (it’s vegan, but not cruelty-free) and I decided to try Elf’s. Since I haven’t been wearing much make-up, I decided to go for a concealer that does more than your average one. I also picked up some setting powder too and was really impressed by both! All of Elf’s makeup is cruelty-free and vegan, I definitely want to try more.
Pizza Express introduced vegan cheese to their menu
Pizza Express added vegan cheese to their menu this month and it’s amazing! We used to go to Pizza Express a lot when we were veggie, in fact we have a Christmas Eve tradition. We haven’t been since going vegan and I’m so glad we can now. You can ask for any pizza with the vegan cheese I believe!
Okja made me cry ugly tears
We also watched Netflix original film Okja and it was an emotional rollercoaster. It was the first thing I’ve watched since going vegan that made me feel happy I did. I think all meat-eaters should watch this movie, even though it’s fictional it’ll make you think!
I got a tofu press for my birthday and it’s changed my life
We cook Tofu so much more now!
NARS announced they were selling in China and the response was divided in the blogosphere
Another brand have decided that money is more important to them than consumers or animals. I actually never got round to trying NARS, but I know a lot of cruelty-free consumers and bloggers who have supported them for years. The news divided beauty bloggers and consumers; discussions and arguments happened on Twitter and it also inspired a few blog posts. The one you should actually read is this post from Sarah.
We returned to Brighton for the first time since going vegan
Lastly, I spent my birthday weekend in Brighton. It was a lot of fun! We haven’t been since going vegan and I was blown away by how much choice there was there. The highlight was definitely Purezza! I can’t wait to return as there’s still so much left to see.
